A Helicopter in the sky

News posted: 26 May, 2006 Post by: Leeroy Lugg

Time to read: ~ minutes, give or take.

I wake up early on another workday morning, and after breakfast I stand in the tiny London garden to drink my first cup of coffee.

The sun is shining; not a cloud in the sky. It’s going to be a beautiful day…

To my left, I hear the sound of a helicopter. I track its movements and watch it circle a huge cloud of black smoke. The smoke is growing, and sirens can now also be heard. The noxious plume is beginning to stain the blue sky. From the direction of the smoke, I guess it must be a factory or warehouse on fire. I finish my coffee and head off to work.

Today I realised that, as I stood there drinking my coffee, I was watching Tracey Emin’s tent and the Chapman brothers’ Hell… “go up in flames.
